CIRC Haiti Earthquake Appeal Update
The Cayman Islands Red Cross would like to thank the residents of the Cayman Islands for their generous and heart felt response to the victims of the Haiti Earthquake. Between January 13th and January 18th, the Cayman Islands Red Cross raised over $83,000 CI towards its relief efforts.
This is extremely encouraging, specially now where the International Red Cross appeal for Haiti has increased from US$10 million to US$103million as the teams on the ground have completed their assessments for the needs of the most vulnerable victims.
We continue to ask private citizens, organizations and companies to give as little or as much as they can at this point in time as every dollar is a tremendous help. However, please ensure that you are giving to organizations that will get the funds to Haiti. One hundred percent (100%) of the Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Appeal will go directly to Haiti.
Also, we ask that private individuals organizing cash collections kindly coordinate with the Red Cross prior to embarking on any such endeavour, and that companies who are allowing for such activity to take place on their premises verify with the Red Cross if there are any questions as to the legitimacy of the collection.
The Cayman Islands Red Cross is still *NOT* collecting any goods to be sent to Haiti at this time. There continues to be logistical and security concerns which have hindered efforts to get these donations to the most vulnerable in Haiti. However, the Cayman Islands Red Cross will be donating 100% of funds raised via the sale of goods in its Thrift Shop between January 19th and January 30th to the Haiti appeal. Persons wishing to donate items in GOOD QUALITY can do so by dropping it off to the Red Cross or contacting 916-8954 to schedule a pick up.
Tracing and messaging continues to the available to residents of the Cayman Islands looking for family and friends in Haiti. Persons needing assistance should contact 949-6785 ext. 27 or 916-1742 or email tracing requests to rxadmin@candw.ky.
Haiti’s road to recovery will be a long and arduous one. The CIRC will continue to maintain the Cayman public informed of developments and updates. In the meantime, donations can still be made directly to the Red Cross (#34 Huldah Avenue, beside Barnett Music Centre), to Butterfield Bank under the Cayman Islands Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Appeal Account (02-201-035054-04) or to the Scotia Bank Accounts under the Cayman Islands Red Cross Earthquake Appeal (CI$ 10015473 -- US$ 10015474).
